Two classic Sega light gun shooters, The House of the Dead and The House of the Dead 2, are being remade, according to developer Forever Entertainment. The studio is also responsible for the forthcoming remakes of Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon 2 Zwei.

Forever Entertainment confirmed the House of the Dead remakes on Twitter, saying it had signed an agreement to remake the two games. “No platforms or release dates have been confirmed, and unfortunately we can’t say anything more for now,” the developer said.

The House of the Dead and The House of the Dead 2 were both originally released in arcades, in 1996 and 1998, respectively. Sega later released versions of those games on Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, as well as Windows PC. Both titles relied on light gun technology and required fast reflexes as players shot zombies and other mutated creatures in order to protect civilians from certain death. They are also fondly remembered for their achingly cheesy voiceover work, The House of the Dead 2 in particular.

It’s not clear yet how Forever Entertainment plans to remake or re-imagine the House of the Dead franchise, and if they’ll stick with light gun-style controllers for the remakes.

Forever Entertainment gave fans a first glimpse of its Panzer Dragoon remake this summer at E3 2019. The remake of Panzer Dragoon, a Saturn game, looks far more lush and vibrant than the original, offering hope for a similarly enhanced version of House of the Dead.
